API Terms of Use

Last updated: August 8, 2026

What this is about

These API Terms of Use apply in addition to our general Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy as soon as you enable developer access and use the pon API. By enabling developer access you confirm that you have read these terms and agree to them. If you do not agree, you cannot use developer access.

Free – and it should stay that way

pon is free, and using the API is free too. We genuinely welcome you integrating pon into your own systems and tools. Running it does, however, cause ongoing server costs. If you use the API and pon is useful to you, we'd appreciate your voluntary support so the service can stay free for everyone – with no obligation: support pon. And so the service stays stable for everyone, we also ask you to use the API fairly, within the rules below.

What you may do

Developer access lets you use personal access tokens to reach the data of your own account – for your own scripts, automations and integrations (for example curl, n8n, Home Assistant or your own homelab). You only ever access your own data, the same data you use in the app. Use is at your own discretion and your own risk; you are responsible for securely integrating the API into your systems.

Fair use

Use the API within a reasonable scope – roughly the way a normal user uses the app. In particular, the following are not allowed: unnecessarily frequent polling (keep sensible intervals and respect the wait times the server states); mass automated creating, changing or deleting; circumventing technical limits; reading or collecting data that is not yours; using it to build a competing service or to resell; and security or load testing without our express prior permission.

Technical limits

We apply technical limits, such as a maximum number of requests per minute, to keep the service stable and free for everyone. If you exceed them, your access may be throttled or temporarily blocked. We reserve the right to adjust these limits at any time.

Your tokens

Your access tokens are secret, like a password. You are responsible for all actions carried out with your tokens. Keep them safe, do not share them, and revoke them immediately if they are lost or may have fallen into the wrong hands. You can revoke your tokens in your account at any time. Please notify us immediately of any unauthorised access to your account.

No warranties

The API is provided without any warranty. We do not guarantee any particular availability, freedom from errors, or fitness for a particular purpose. There is no assured service level. The API may change at any time, including changes that break existing integrations. We aim to announce material changes appropriately in advance, but are not obliged to do so. We do not owe any adaptation of the API to your individual needs or your IT environment.

Changes and possible usage tiers

Because pon is free, we have to keep server costs within reason. We expressly reserve the right to change the scope, quotas and limits of the API at any time, to discontinue individual features, and – if it becomes necessary to cover costs – to introduce usage tiers, quotas or paid offerings in the future. Existing tokens and integrations may be affected by such changes. We may also discontinue the API in whole or in part; we will inform you of this with reasonable advance notice.

Suspending access

We may suspend or revoke your developer access and individual tokens if you breach these terms, endanger operations, or where it is necessary to protect the service for everyone. Where possible and appropriate, we will inform you.

Liability

We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, and for damage arising from injury to life, body or health and under the Product Liability Act. For simple negligence we are liable only where an essential contractual duty is breached – a duty whose fulfilment makes the proper use of the API possible in the first place and on whose observance you may regularly rely – and then limited to the foreseeable, typical damage. Otherwise our liability is excluded.

Data protection

Our Privacy Policy governs the processing of your data. Through the API you only access the data of your own account.

Responsibility for retrieved data

You are responsible for data you retrieve through the API and store or process in your own systems – including its security and, where it contains other people's data, compliance with the applicable data-protection rules.

Rights in the API

The API, its structure, its documentation and the content provided through it belong to us or our licensors. You only receive the non-exclusive, revocable right to use the API for your own account within these terms. No further rights are granted to you.

Changes to these terms

We may change these API Terms of Use. You can find the current version in our legal section at any time; the version is shown by the date at the end of this document. We will announce material changes appropriately. When you enable developer access we record which version of these terms you agreed to; for material changes we may ask you to agree again.

Assignment

We may assign this usage relationship with all rights and obligations to a legal successor or a third party. If pon is transferred in whole or in the relevant part to a legal successor, you have a special right of termination, unless it is a universal succession.

Supplementary application

These API Terms of Use supplement our general Terms of Use. Where they do not provide otherwise, the general Terms of Use apply accordingly – including the provisions on applicable law, place of jurisdiction and the invalidity of individual provisions.
